Quite recently, I was experimenting with easy snacks that take my taste buds for a ride, but at the same time, don’t take a whole lot of effort and kitchen time. And oh, of course, they need to be non-fried and non greasy too.

    Air Fryer Appetizers

That’s when the Air Fryer Comes in handy. Making an array of such crispy and delightful snacks / appetizers is so easy and so rewarding when you use an Air Fryer. Using circulating warm air instead of deep frying in oil reduces the calorie count without sacrificing the taste and texture.

Speaking of Air Fryer Recipes, do check out these Sweet Potato Wedges, Crispy Zucchini Fries, Roasted Brussels Sprouts and Crispy Fingerling Potatoes. They all are wonderful food ideas that whole family will enjoy.

    Ingredients:

You’ll need just a handful of ingredients to put these delightful puffs together. Exact measurements are listed in the recipe card below.

Puff Pastry : Puff Pastry is perfect for quick and easy appetizer. Use store brought puff pastry sheet. Make sure to thaw them properly on the kitchen counter. Use 1-2 Tablespoon milk to press the puffs together if needed.

Onion – Garlic-Mushroom Mixture : Olive Oil, Minced Garlic, Chopped onion and chopped mushrooms. I used baby portabella mushrooms but you can use any variety of mushrooms including white button mushrooms.

Seasoning : I am using red pepper powder and black pepper powder. Since caramelized onions and mushrooms have deep earthy rich flavors, you don’t really need too much seasoning. But feel free to use Italian, Taco seasoning or Cajun seasoning if you want to further spice it up. Since puff pastry is slight salty, adjust additional salt according to your taste.

Optional Garnishes : Fresh or dried herbs like chopped parsley, thyme or basil adds great depth of flavors.

How to Store the Leftover Mushroom Puffs

Leftover mushroom puffs can stay good in your refrigerator for 5-7 days. Just make sure you store them in an airtight container to preserve their freshness.

You can also freeze the puffs if you want to store them for a longer duration. Prepare them completely, but don’t air fry them. Transfer them to a freezer-safe container and then just pop them in when you need them.

    Pro Tips

Got the recipe all covered? You might want to keep these little tips and tricks to get consistent results.

    • You can also add a bit of cheddar or mozzarella cheese into the mushroom puff filling to take the flavors up a notch.
    • Before you place the puffs in the air fryer basket, remember to grease them a bit by using a oil spray. This will keep them from sticking to the edges of the basket, and it’ll become easy for you to remove them too.
    • Remember to allow the mushroom mixture to cool down completely before you start placing it on the pastry sheet.
    • You can also sprinkle a bit of cheese on each mushroom puff after you load them in the air fryer basket. This gives nice crusty cheese top.

Made these just now. They are excellent! I’m not a big red pepper fan so I used smoked paprika and some mild Cheddar cheese in the filling. Yum!
