This Herbal Tea Mix is full of Immunity Booster Superfoods. It is an aromatic spice blend super easy to make at home. This heirloom recipe combines immunity boosting foods with Ayurvedic properties.

This homemade immunity booster powder helps in maintaining your overall well being. It also should relieve the symptoms of common cough, cold and flu especially during harsh winter months. Similar to Chai- Spiced Tea Latte, Homemade Hot Cocoa and Golden Milk- Turmeric Latte, this herbal tea is my favorite winter drink.

THE RECIPE CARD IS LOCATED TOWARDS THE END. Amazon affiliate link disclosure is below as well. Before scrolling to the recipe card, do check the HELPFUL RECIPE TIPS in the post.

    Recipe Inspiration

My grandmother is 91 years old and going strong ! God bless her happy and energetic soul. Beginning of winter months, she has been making this powder for as long as we can remember.

I love recreating these recipes that have been passed down the generations. In those good old days, people especially women heavily relied on herbs and spices to treat the common ailments. These home remedies need to be cherished and revived to the best way possible.

Kitchen wisdom as we can call it , now sells for big bucks under the names of superfoods and natural remedies. I remember my grandma used to mix this immunity powder with ghee and jaggery. She used to make bite size balls and we would get them as a after school sweet treat.

I want to share one such simple powder mix. The combination of herbs and spices in this mix is commonly believed to help boost your immune system.

    Indian Herbal Tea Mix

However if you notice the ingredients, they all are part of various Indian masala recipes. Just a few tweaks that’s all.

You can simply google and see health benefits for using turmeric, cinnamon and ginger in fighting the infections and inflammation. Adding Black pepper with turmeric helps the curcumin vitality.

We combine those ingredients. Add in healing and digestive boosters of cumin, coriander and fennel seeds as well as cardamom and cloves.

Per Ayurvedic Science, when we balance the three dosha ( vaat , cough and pitta) our body gets in harmony and well being. The combination of these spices help us get that balance naturally.

    Serving Suggestions

I often drink this powder with a glass of warm water. You can add it in your green tea as well. We also like it mixed with warm almond milk for delicious golden latte.

You can use this powder in so many different ways. Sprinkle it on oatmeal, pancakes, avocado toast. You can add it as a topping on latte or cappuccinos. You can mix it in dough to make cookies with it too.

Use your imagination and sky is the limit on the different ways that you can use it.

You only use 1/2 teaspoon of this mixture per day. The mixture has strong concentrated flavors with spicy tone. Do not over use it.

If you are not used to hot spices, lower the amount of ginger, black pepper and cloves used.

    Ingredients

The herbal mix is made up of nine spices which are found in almost every Indian pantry. If you are new to Indian spices, you can get them in Wholefoods or major grocery stores as well as on Amazon. Exact measurements are listed in the recipe card. The ingredients are

    • organic turmeric powder
    • whole black peppercorns
    • fennel seeds
    • cumin seeds
    • coriander seeds
    • dry ginger powder
    • cinnamon powder
    • green cardamom seeds
    • black cloves

    How to Make

Warm up the heavy bottom pan on low heat. On a low heat, dry roast all ingredients except turmeric and ginger powder. Keep stirring them till they get warm and release the aroma. Turn off the heat.

Remove the ingredients on dry plate and let them cool completely. Once they are completely cooled, grind them into a fine powder.

Mix in turmeric and dry ginger powder. Mix everything well and store it in a air tight glass jar.

    Easy to Customize

The glory of making your own spice blends is that you can customize them exactly the way you want to, and thus this recipe my interpretation.

So, this Homemade Immunity boosting support powder is something you need in your life. These flavors make you feel all warm and cozy inside.

The wafting aroma is soothing to the soul and instant mood booster. You need this cozy comfort especially during fall and winter months.

    Holiday Gift

I often make a big batch of this immunity support herbal tea mix. I pack them in small 4 oz glass mason jars with a cute ribbon or bow tied around. It is a crowd pleaser homemade gift.

It becomes a wonderful gift to my friends and family for winter holidays . All the compliments I get, especially in January for such a thoughtful gift are priceless!

Pro Tips To Make Herbal Tea Mix

    • Always use fresh spices.
    • Use only dry spoon to scoop the mix out.
    • Grind the powder to the finest level possible. If you prefer, sift it through fine mesh or sieve to get finest smooth powder.
    • Store the powder mix in air tight glass bottle / container and keep it in cool dry place, away from the direct sunlight.
    • You can double the batch. Keep the spice proportions roughly the same.
    • It is believed that turmeric loses some of it’s curcumin potency after heating. So do not dry roast it.

@Immunity Booster, Should the cardamom seeds be measured by taking out the shell? Could we use cardamom powder instead?

You can use cardamom powder as well. The measurement should be without the shells. just the seeds. TY

We have not tried it. But in very small amount should be ok. Mix 1/8 teaspoon with at least cup of water.
