    Is Turmeric Healthy?

Turmeric ( called haldi in Hindi) is a Superfood quality medicinal herb. Curcumin is the main active ingredient in turmeric. It has powerful anti-inflammatory properties and antiseptic effects. It also is a strong antioxidant.

As an Ayurvedic Medicine, turmeric is highly regarded for it's healing and antibacterial benefits. It often is used to combat common winter ailments especially cough and cold. This WebMD Article details all the information pertinent to Turmeric.

    Traditional Family Recipe

Like a lot of my fellow friends, I grew up drinking haldi milk especially during winter months in India. It is often prepared to combat the onset of sniffles and cough.

I wasn't fond of regular milk so my mom used to make this drink with unsweetened almond milk. With a dusting of nutmeg, it was a bedtime drink.

Now, in cold wintery Chicago, I cherish those memories. This delicious drink warms up both my heart and belly.

This is an easy toss, whisk and simmer type recipe. In 10 minutes you are ready to devour this glowing drink.

It’s beautifully spiced, while still creamy and decadent in taste.

    • Nutmeg
    • Saffron

    Is Turmeric Latte Caffeine Free?

Yes ! Even though it is called latte, there isn’t any coffee or caffeine in this drink. So you can drink this turmeric latte through the day and into the night.

    Why Add Black Pepper

Coupling turmeric with black pepper may enhance its healthy effects. The key health compounds in turmeric are called curcuminoids ( Curcumin ) while Black pepper contains the bioactive compound piperine.

Combining the piperine in black pepper with the curcumin in turmeric enhances curcumin absorption substantially. Together, it helps our body absorb all the health benefits better.

I haven't tried this milk but after reading this article I will be making it. I have used tumeric since I first read about it's healing properties almost 10 years ago. I take a teaspoon of Tumeric Paste everyday. It does help with inflammation. I had a sore pop up on the inside of my cheek. I put Olive Oil on a cotton swab, rolled it in Tumeric Powder then applied the mixture to the sore. The next morning, it was completely gone.

You neglected to mention how much milk to use in the recipes. I take a mix of turmeric, honey, black pepper and acv in warm water with a neem capsule, every morning. I am not a milk drinker, but plan to try with almond milk. I love the aromatic turmeric powder!
