What is Instant Milk Peda
This instant milk pedha is one such fusion / short cut recipe. Instead of simmering milk on the stove for hours, like it is traditionally done, we use condensed milk.
In classic recipes, mawa or khoya is used which is thick milk solids. This recipe uses milk powder to attain the same results.
So making the dessert that looks so gourmet couldn't be easier. You mix in all ingredients. Microwave it for 3 minutes in 3 short intervals. Let it cool down some and then roll and shape the pedhas. IT.IS.THAT.SIMPLE !
Perfect For Gifting
You can also pack these cute pedhas in gift wrap or colorful bags for gift giving. Homemade edible gifts like Chocolate Dipped Pretzels, Peppermint Chocolate Bark or Chocolate Peanut Clusters are so wonderful to give to your neighbors and guests.
Ingredients:
Exact measurements are listed in the recipe card below. Here's what I used in little more details and easy substitutions.
- Milk Powder - I used Non fat dry milk powder. You can use full fat version as well.
- Condensed Milk - Store brought condensed milk works. It tends to be sweet so you do not need to add extra sugar in this recipe. If you want to reduce the sugar intake, use unsweetened condensed milk.
- Butter - I used unsalted butter. You can also use ghee which is clarified butter.
- Gulkand - This is for flavoring. Gulkand is rose petal jam popular in middle Eastern and Indian food. It is sweet and full of rose flavor. I love adding gulkand in pedha since it adds extra depth of flavor and aroma which makes it unique. You can skip adding gulkand if you do not have it easily available.
- Substitutions - Instead of using Gulkand, you can use other sweet flavoring ingredients to make these pedhas. Most popular Indian flavorings are cardamom and saffron. You can also add bit of mango pulp to make it mango pedha. Butter scotch or caramel are also good options
Easy Substitutions
- This recipe is also easy to adapt to your liking. Instead of rose petal jam called GULKAND , you can use variety of chopped nuts, saffron strands, Cardamom and nutmeg and PAAN flavor.
- I love adding rose petal jam since it makes it look so pretty and exotic. Add a touch of glamor to your next celebration with these delicacies. They look and taste so fancy, no one will believe that are so easy to make.

Would it make much of a difference if I substituted ghee for butter? Wondering about the flavour and texture.
Prajakta Sukhatme
I haven't made it with ghee but worth a try.
