    What is Kulfi anyways?
If you are new to Indian cuisine, Kulfi is a cold frozen dessert commonly sold as ice cream in India. The traditional way of making kulfi requires boiling and reducing the milk so that it becomes thick, creamy in texture. This easy no cook kulfi recipe is a quick version of the traditional kulfi recipe. In this version the evaporated milk and condensed milk are combined together. Mukhwas ( after meal mouth freshener )or Banaras paan gives it a instant nostalgic aroma and rose water adds a distinctive mild fragrance to the kulfi.

1 can Sweetened Condensed Milk – 14 oz
    1 can Evaporated Milk – 12 oz
1 tablespoon Mukhwas ( After meal Mouth Freshener -Indian Style)
1 tablespoon Gulkand ( Rose Petals Jam)

    1 tablespoon Rose Water
¼ cup Cashews, Pistachios or Almonds coarsely ground ( optional)

    Directions:

In a large mixing bowl, combine Sweetened Condensed Milk, Evaporated Milk and Mukhwas and Gulkand. Using an electric hand blender (or by hand), mix all ingredients together. Add in Rose water, fennel seeds and nuts. Mix well.

Pour mixture into small Dixie style plastic cups or Popsicle Molds. . Every time you fill the cup, stir the mixture with ladle. This will ensure every cup/ mold gets the coarsely ground mixture that tends to settle on the bottom.

Cover cups with foil and insert a wooden popsicle stick into the center. Alternatively, you can freeze it in 8×8 Freezer safe glass container. Once frozen, you can cut it into squares and serve on the dessert plates.

Freeze Kulfi for at least 4-6 hours, preferably overnight. Garnish with dried rose petals and serve cold.

Serves about 20 when made using small popsicle molds or ¾ filled 6 oz cups.

This sounds like a really interesting recipe but I am lactose intolerant, could you suggest a substitution?
      Thank you

We haven’t tried but frozen banana puree or coconut milk would work well. It will not stay firm frozen for too long though.
