Chocolate Nests Noodles
These Edible Chocolate Egg Nests are made with just 3 ingredients. Melted chocolate chips, coconut oil and crispy Chow Mein Noodles. You add store brought egg shaped chocolates or candies to make these beautiful Easter Chocolate Nests.
Store bought mini Chocolate eggs add wonderful pastel color and they look gorgeous for Spring season celebrations.
This no-bake dessert recipe is easy and can be used as a family activity. Kids will love helping in making these nest cookies.
Perfect Easter Dessert
If you are looking to make cute and festive candy treats for Easter, then these are simply the best. They are super crowd pleaser and everyone LOVES them.
I am including Instant Pot, Stovetop and Microwave instructions to melt chocolate chips to perfection. I prefer to use Instant Pot for smooth and consistent results.
These Chocolate haystacks look stunning for an Easter or outdoor garden party.
Ingredients
All you need is a 4 ingredients and 15 minutes to make these fun little chocolate birds nest treats. I am including several options and variations to make them.
- Chocolate Chips : I used semi-sweet chocolate chips. They are sweet and slightly bitter chocolate taste.
- Chow Mein Noodles : Store brought chow-mein noodles add salty and savory taste to these nest cookies. They are crispy and give haystack / branch like appearance to the nests.
- Coconut Oil : Helps melt the chocolate chips to smooth consistency. It also gives a nice shiny glaze to the cookies.
- Egg Shaped Candies: You can use your favorites like Cadbury Mini Eggs, Jelly Bird Eggs or other store brought egg shaped candies. Choose mini size so the eggs fit in the nests.
Variations
- Besides semi sweet chocolate chips, you can use several other combination of chocolate chips, plain milk chocolate, dark chocolate, mint chocolate or butterscotch chips are great options.
- You can stir in almond butter or peanut butter to add more flavors.
- Dry Coconut flakes, shredded wheat cereal, puffed wheat or cornflakes cereal, rice Krispies cereal or mini pretzel sticks can be used instead of dry Chow Mein Noodles. All of them look like twigs on the nest.
- You can use vegetable shortening, oil or butter instead of coconut oil.
How To Make Easter Chocolate Egg Nests
- Melt the chocolate chips until smooth. Add in coconut oil and mix well.
- Put the chow mein noodles into a large mixing bowl. Pour the melted chocolate over the noodles. Gently mix until the noodles are evenly coated.
- Drop a heaped tablespoon of chocolate noodles mixture onto the parchment lined baking sheet. Using the back of the measuring cup, press in the center to create a nest or well like indent.(You can also spray a mini muffin pan with nonstick spray. Add a tablespoon of the chocolate-noodles mixture to the muffin cup and press lightly in the center to form a well/nest. ) Choose either one of the method.
- Put a few mini Cadbury eggs in the middle of the nests and press them down so they stick to the nests. Repeat the process until all the chocolate noodles mixture is finished.
- Refrigerate the nests for 20 to 30 minutes to help the chocolate harden. Remove from the sheet and enjoy !
Storage
Once you have made your chocolate nests, you can keep them on the counter for 3 days. Store in air tight container and make sure keep them away for direct sun light or heat sources.
Place them in an airtight container in the refrigerator. They will keep well for couple of weeks. So they are great for make ahead Easter Treats.
How to Melt Chocolate chips in Instant Pot
Place an instant pot liner in an Instant Pot. Insert trivet in the liner. Pour 2 cups of water into the liner. Press the SAUTE button.
Place a glass or steel bowl on top of the trivet. Place the chocolate chips and coconut oil inside the bowl. Stir occasionally, until completely melted and chocolate is smooth (takes 7-8 minutes).
How to Melt Chocolate chips on the stove top
In a heavy saucepan over low heat, melt the chocolate chips and coconut oil until smooth and runny. Stir well , scraping from the bottom so the chocolate doesn't burn. Stir in continuously till chocolate is fully melted and has smooth pourable consistency.
How to Melt Chocolate chips in Microwave
Add the chocolate chips and coconut oil (or shortening) in Microwave safe bowl. Microwave it for 1 minute.
Then remove the bowl and stir. The chocolate should start melting. Put the bowl back in the microwave and heat at 30 second intervals. Stir between each interval until the chocolate is completely melted and smooth.

Enjoy making it. Oil helps smoothen the melted chocolate and gives a nice gloss. It's not much of a flavor but you can skip it.
