    This 7-ingredient Creamy Mushroom Sauce is full of rich umami and savory flavors. This 20-minute sauce is easy to make and versatile to use. Drizzle it over pasta, spoon it onto grilled entrees, or use it as a decadent dip for crusty bread – the possibilities are endless.

    It also has hearty umami element, creating a savory and satisfying taste. It's luxurious and creamy texture and richness helps to balance the earthiness of the mushrooms, creating a velvety and indulgent experience.

    Similar to Instant Pot Tomato Sauce, and Basil and Pesto Sauce with Walnuts this mushroom sauce is our favorite pasta sauce.

    Ingredients

    Let's keep things simple with a handful of ingredients that pack a punch in the flavor department. You'll need:

    Ingredients used in making this umami rich mushroom sauce.

    Mushrooms: I prefer to use baby bella or cremini mushrooms to make this sauce. You can also use other varieties like white button mushrooms or even more robust varieties like shiitake or portobello. Mushrooms bring a unique earthy and umami flavor to the sauce.

    Butter and Olive Oil: To sauté the mushrooms and create a flavorful base for the sauce. Butter adds richness, while oil provides a earthy smoothness. I prefer to use both.

    Minced Garlic: Contributes to the overall pungent taste by providing depth and a savory undertone.

    Evaporated milk: Makes it a creamy sauce with a luscious, velvety texture. It is lighter in calories than heavy whipping cream. It also eliminates the need to use fillers like corn starch or flour to thicken the sauce.

    Seasonings: I like to use fresh thyme leaves to enhance the flavors. You can also use dried thyme. It adds woody and peppery taste and goes so well with hearty dishes. A drizzle of lemon juice adds nice balancing citric flavors.

    How to Make

    Step 1: Sauté the Mushrooms
    Start by melting the butter in a pan over medium heat. Let the butter is sizzle. Add olive oil and let it heat up.

    Add the sliced mushrooms and sauté them until they're golden brown and tender. This step allows the mushrooms to release their natural flavors and develop a delicious depth.

    Toss in the minced garlic and stir it into the mushrooms. The aromatic combination of garlic and mushrooms will fill your kitchen with an irresistible fragrance, signaling that something truly delectable is in the making.

    Let the mixture come to light bubble on medium heat. Stir well and let it heat up for 3-5 more minutes on low heat, stirring continuously and scraping around the edges. It will thicken, creating that luxurious consistency we all love in a creamy sauce.

    Season your sauce with thyme, lemon juice, salt and pepper to taste. Don't be shy with the pepper; it adds a delightful kick that complements the richness of the cream and mushrooms. Adjust the seasoning according to your preferences. Enjoy !
