Ingredients
Apples: Use red delicious for red color roses, pink lady apples for pink colored roses, You can also use gala, fuji, honeycrisp apples. If you enjoy a slightly more tart flavor, you can incorporate Granny Smith apples.
Puff Pastry: I use store bought frozen puff pastry sheets to make golden brown and buttery flaky crust. Thaw it per package directions before starting the recipe.
Cinnamon: Ground Cinnamon, the aromatic spice, infuses the Apple Rose Puff Pastry with warmth and a comforting flavor, elevating the overall profile and adding a touch of autumnal richness. You can also use nutmeg , pumpkin spice or allspice but I love apple cinnamon combo the best.
Sugar and Lemon Juice: Powdered sugar and lemon juice not only enhances the natural sweetness of the apples but also prevents browning, ensuring a vibrant and visually appealing presentation.
Butter ( optional) : For beautiful glaze on the top and prevent the apple slices from burning. This is optional. Use plant based butter for vegan.
Powdered Sugar (Optional): A light dusting of powdered sugar, if desired, crowns the pastry with a touch of sweetness, completing the sensory experience and adding a delicate finish to each rose.
How to Make
Prepare: Thaw the puff pastry per package instructions. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Prepare the Apples: Core the apples and slice them thinly, keeping the peel for color. In a bowl, toss the apple slices with lemon juice to prevent browning. Dust some powdered sugar on them.
Prepare the Puff Pastry: Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface to smooth out any creases. Using a pizza cutter, cut the pastry into strips, approximately 2 inches wide. Sprinkle some sugar and and ground cinnamon over the stripes for added sweetness and flavor.
Make the Rose shaped puff pastry rolls : Place the apple slices along one edge of each pastry strip, slightly overlapping them. Fold the bottom half of the pastry over the apples. Roll the pastry strip into a spiral, creating the appearance of a rose.
Seal the end of the strip to prevent it from unraveling. Place the apple roses in a muffin tin or on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush the tops of the roses with the melted butter.
Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until the pastry is golden brown and the apples are tender.
Serve: While the pastries are still warm, sprinkle them with a mixture of powdered sugar and ground cinnamon for added flavor. Allow the Apple Rose Puff Pastries to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy !
It can be served on its own or accompanied by a scoop of ice cream, a dollop of whipped cream, or a drizzle of apple butter, caramel or apricot preserve for an extra indulgent experience.

Tips for Making the Best Puff Pastry Apple Rose Pastries
Use a mandolin or a sharp knife to achieve uniform and thin slices. This not only ensures even baking but also makes it easier to roll the pastry into a rose shape.
Puff pastry is best when it’s cold, so work quickly to prevent it from becoming too soft. If it becomes warm, it may not puff up as much during baking.
I prefer to use muffin liners to hold the pastry intact It helps with easier clean up as well.
If it’s your first time making apple puff pastry roses, consider doing a trial run. This allows you to familiarize yourself with the process and make adjustments before serving the final product to guests.

FAQs
To prevent the puff pastry from becoming soggy, make sure to slice the apples thinly and remove excess moisture. Pat the apple slices dry with a paper towel before arranging them on the pastry. Additionally, avoid overloading the pastry with too many apple slices, as excess moisture can compromise the crispness of the layers. Baking the pastries in a preheated oven also helps ensure the puff pastry cooks properly, preventing sogginess.
Apple Puff Pastry Roses are delightful on their own, but you can enhance the experience by serving them with complementary accompaniments. A dollop of vanilla ice cream, coconut cream or whipped cream is simply superb. You can drizzle the roses with caramel sauce, honey or maple syrup for subtle earthy taste.
Can I prepare Apple Rose Puff Pastry ahead of time?
Yes, you can prepare certain components ahead of time for convenience. Sliced apples can be coated in lemon juice and stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for a few hours. Assemble the apple roses and refrigerate them on the baking sheet, covered with plastic wrap, until you’re ready to bake. This allows for a fresher taste and shorter baking time when you’re ready to serve.
Do I need to pre-bake the puff pastry?
No. No need to pre bake puff pastry. Just properly thaw the pastry as directions.
