Paneer Bhurji is a delicious, protein-packed, low-carb dish that’s ready in just 10-minutes! This Indian-style spiced cottage cheese scramble is flavorful, nutritious, and incredibly easy to make. Dhaba style Paneer bhurji is a perfect choice for quick breakfast, a filling lunch, or a light dinner.

Similar to Tofu Scramble with black salt, Besan Chilla and 2-ingredient Bagel Bites, this paneer Bhurji recipe is my favorite satisfying breakfast choice. You will also love this high-protein, low-carb meal that’s bursting with Indian flavors!
Ingredients (Serves 2)
Paneer : Fresh or store bought paneer which is Indian cottage cheese, a powerhouse of protein and calcium. Substitute: Extra firm tofu for a plant-based option.
Vegetables : Onion, Adds a mild sweetness and depth. Tomato or tomato sauce to balances the richness with a slight tang. You can also add cooked peas, bell peppers, broccoli or spinach as additional filling.
Spices : Ginger-garlic paste Infuses aromatic warmth. Turmeric powder offers color and anti-inflammatory benefits, red chili powder enhances the spice level. Cumin seeds add earthiness. Garam masala rounds up the flavors. I like to add a green chili for extra heat.
Butter, ghee or olive oil for a sauteing.
Instructions
Heat butter or ghee in a pan over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter. Add chopped onions and sauté until translucent.
Stir in the green chili and ginger-garlic paste, cooking for another 30 seconds until aromatic. Mix in the tomatoes or tomato sauce, turmeric, red chili powder, coriander powder, and salt. Cook until the tomatoes soften.
Add crumbled paneer, stir well, and let it absorb the flavors for 2-3 minutes. Sprinkle garam masala and mix again. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot!
Storage Tips
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat in a pan over low heat, adding a splash of water to maintain moisture.

- 1 Tablespoon Oil
- 1 teaspoon Cumin Seeds
- 1 Tablespoon Ginger garlic paste
- ¼ teaspoon Turmeric Powder

- 1 Green Chili optional, adjust per spice tolerance
- 1 small Onion finely chopped
- 1 medium Tomato finely chopped , or use ¼ cup tomato sauce
Optional garnishes
- 2 Tablespoons cilantro finely chopped
- ½ teaspoon kasuri methi
