Red , white and blue chocolate bark is a fun and festive treat that's perfect for any patriotic celebration. It's not only eye-catching with its vibrant colors but also incredibly easy to make. Whether you're planning a Fourth of July picnic, Memorial Day barbecue, or just want to add a bit of patriotic flair to your dessert table, this delicious bark has got you covered.

Red, white and blue colored chocolate bark with sprinkles served for patriotic party celebrations.

With earthy rich dark chocolate, creamy white chocolate, crunchy toppings, and a touch of sweetness, it's a crowd-pleaser ! Afterall, who can say no to fun chocolate dessert? I am super sure this easy no-bake dessert recipe will delight both kids and adults alike. Let's get started on making this delightful and colorful treat!

Use it for your celebration or take it along as a crowd pleaser gift. You can also make it ahead of time. My family loves making it all summer long. It's kid's favorite treat for pool parties and picnics. All you need is 15-minutes of active prep time. Rest of the time is just to let it chill in refrigerator.

    Ingredients

Ingredients used in making homemade red, white and blue candy bark.

Chocolate Chips : I am using dark ( semi-sweet ) and white chocolate chips. You can make this with just white chocolate but I prefer to add a layer of dark chocolate to make it more sturdy.

Candy Melts : Red and blue colored candy melts for vibrant swirls and a festive look. You can use red and blue colored chocolate chips or white chocolate tinted with food coloring as substitutes.

Decorations : Sprinkles and M&M candies adds color and a bit of crunch. If you don't have sprinkles, try using crushed red and blue hard candies or colored sugar crystals. You can also use dried fruit and chopped nuts as decorations.

Coconut oil ( optional) : Adding a little bit of coconut oil helps chocolate chips melt smoothly. It also helps in evenly spreading the chocolate.  You also get a nice shiny glaze on top once the chocolate firms.

    How to Make

Step by step instructions collage on how to make Patriotic chocolate bark at home using chocolate chips and candy melts.
    • Prepare the Tray: Line a baking tray with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
    • Layer the Chocolates: Begin by melting the semi-sweet chocolate morsels. I prefer to do this in Instant Pot. See instructions in notes. You can do this in a microwave in 30-second bursts, stirring between each, until smooth.
    • Pour the melted semi-sweet chocolate onto the prepared tray, spreading it into an even layer.
    • Allow this layer to harden completely. You can speed up this process by placing the tray in the refrigerator.
    • Add the White Chocolate Layer: Melt the white chocolate morsels using the same method as before. Once melted, pour it over the hardened semi-sweet chocolate layer.
    • Let this white chocolate layer harden completely before proceeding.
    • Drizzle the Candy Melts: Melt the red, white, and blue candy melts separately. You can use small piping bags or a spoon to drizzle each color over the hardened white chocolate layer.
    • Use a toothpick to swirl the colors gently, creating a marbled effect. Do this before the candy melts harden to ensure a smooth pattern.
    • Decorate: Sprinkle the red, white, and blue star sprinkles and M&Ms over the top while the candy melts are still slightly soft to ensure they stick.
    • Final Hardening: Allow the entire tray to harden completely, either at room temperature or in the refrigerator if you're in a hurry.
    • Break into Pieces: Once fully set, lift the bark out of the tray using the edges of the parchment paper and break it into pieces by hand.
    • Serve and Enjoy: Your colorful chocolate bark is ready to be served! Store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature or in the fridge.

    Recipe FAQs

How do I prevent the chocolate from melting too quickly at room temperature?

To keep your chocolate bark from melting too quickly, make sure to temper your chocolate properly. Tempering involves melting the chocolate slowly and carefully to ensure it sets with a nice snap and glossy finish. If you’re using chocolate chips or candy melts, follow the melting instructions on the package. Also, store your chocolate bark in a cool, dry place and avoid direct sunlight.

Can I use different types of chocolate for this recipe?

Absolutely! While white chocolate is commonly used for its bright color, you can also use milk or dark chocolate as the base. Just keep in mind that the white chocolate helps the red and blue toppings stand out more vividly. Mixing and matching different chocolates can add an extra layer of flavor and fun to your bark.

How to Melt Chocolate Chips in Instant Pot?

Add 2 cups of water in the inner pot of Instant Pot. Place a trivet in the main insert.  Place a bowl on top of the trivet. Add chocolate chips to the bowl.
Turn ON Instant Pot on SAUTE mode (more). Once the water starts to boil, cancel SAUTE and press keep warm. Whisk until all the chocolate has melted, it will take around 4-5 minutes.
