Ingredients

  • 5 pound Apples about 10-12 apples , cored and chopped
  • ¾ cup raw cane sugar brown sugar
  • ½ Tablespoon Cinnamon powder
  • 1 Tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 2 Tablespoon Fresh Lemon Juice or apple cider vinegar
  • 1 cup water
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  • Prepare the apples: Peel, core, and chop the apples into small chunks.
  • Add to Instant Pot: Add apples, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and water or apple cider to the Instant Pot. Stir well.
  • Pressure cook: Secure the lid and cook on High Pressure for 15 minutes. Let the pressure release naturally for 10 minutes, then carefully release any remaining pressure.
  • Blend: Open the lid and stir. Use an immersion blender to puree the apples until smooth. Stir in vanilla extract.
  • Thicken: Select the Sauté function and cook uncovered for 20–30 minutes, stirring frequently, until the apple butter becomes thick and spreadable. Turn off the Instant Pot.
  • Cool and store: Let the apple butter cool. It will thicken further as it cools. Transfer to clean jars and refrigerate.

Notes

The spices listed under optional give this apple butter sauce wonderful pumpkin spice flavor. You can however, skip those if you prefer plain apple butter.
For Crock Pot setting : Put all the ingredients in the slow cooker or crockpot and let it cook for 6 hours. once it's cooked, puree the mixture using the immersion blender. Sauté it again until sauce reaches desired thickness.

Pro Tips

  • Use a combination of sweet and tart apples for the best flavor.
  • Honeycrisp, Granny Smith, Gala, Fuji, and Pink Lady are excellent choices.
  • Taste after cooking and add more sugar only if needed.
  • Do not skip the uncovered reduction step. It creates the thick, concentrated texture of apple butter.
  • Stir frequently during the Sauté stage to prevent sticking.
  • Apple butter thickens as it cools, so avoid reducing it too far.

Storage

Store cooled apple butter in an airtight container or clean jar in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks, or freeze for longer storage.
