- 1 (14 oz) block extra-firm tofu drained and pressed
- 1 tablespoon oil optional
- 1 tablespoon miso paste
- 1 tablespoon freshly grated ginger
- 3 cloves garlic minced
- 1 tablespoon liquid coconut amino or tamari or Soy sauce
- 1-2 teaspoon Sriracha or chili sauce, to taste
For The Lettuce Wraps and toppings
- 1 head butter lettuce leaves separated and washed
- ΒΌ cup pickled red onions for garnish
- 1 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds for garnish
Prepare the tofu: Drain and press the tofu to remove excess moisture. Crumble it into small pieces using your hands or a fork.
Make the sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together miso paste, ginger, garlic, soy sauce, water, and sriracha until smooth.
Cook the tofu: Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the crumbled tofu and cook for 5β8 minutes, stirring occasionally, until lightly golden and most of the moisture has evaporated.
Add the sauce: Pour the spicy ginger sauce over the tofu. Stir well and cook for another 2β3 minutes, until the tofu is evenly coated and the sauce thickens slightly.
Assemble the wraps: Spoon the warm ground tofu into the butter lettuce leaves. Top with pickled red onions and toasted sesame seeds.
Serve: Enjoy immediately while the tofu is warm and the lettuce is fresh and crisp.
- Best tofu: Extra-firm tofu gives the filling the best texture.
- Adjust the heat: Use less sriracha for a milder filling or add more for extra spice.
- Storage: Refrigerate the cooked tofu filling in an airtight container for up to 4 days. Store lettuce and toppings separately.
- Reheating: Warm the tofu filling in a skillet or microwave until hot, then assemble fresh lettuce wraps.
Pro Tip: Let the tofu brown before adding the sauce. This creates a better texture and helps the savory ginger-miso flavor shine.
